The kids are bored. The screens are out. Sound familiar? Here is a cure. Learn how to make a clay frog figurine together. It takes one evening and costs no mess at the studio.

The short answer: shape a round body, press in a wide smile, add two big eyes, fold the legs, and let it dry. Paint it bright green or terracotta. Your frog is ready for the shelf.

Why a frog is a perfect family project

Frogs are round, funny, and forgiving. Kids love them. A wide mouth and bulgy eyes hide any wobble. Nobody can get it wrong.

In the UAE, family time can be hard to plan. Summer is hot. Malls are crowded. Weekends fill up fast. A table project at home fixes all three.

It also builds fine motor skills. Rolling, pinching, and pressing train small hands. Adults enjoy it just as much. You will fight over the googly eyes.

How Sawa makes it easy

Each box has air-dry clay, tools, paints, and a step by step guide. No wheel. No kiln. No oven. Your frog hardens by itself.

How to make it: step by step

Step 1: Roll the body

Roll a ball the size of a small plum. Flatten the bottom a little so it sits well. Squeeze the sides gently to make a soft pear shape.

Step 2: Add the eyes and smile

Press two small balls on top of the head. These are the eyes. Add tiny dots for pupils. Use a tool to draw a long, happy smile across the face.

Step 3: Make the legs

Roll two thick sausages. Fold each one into a Z shape. Attach them to the sides as back legs. Add two short front legs. Blend the joins with a damp finger. Use our guide on how to join air dry clay pieces if parts feel loose.

Step 4: Add little details

Press small dots on the back. Add nostrils. Draw lines on the feet for toes. Let kids choose their own patterns.

Step 5: Dry and paint

Dry for one to two days. Then paint. Green is classic. A terracotta frog looks lovely too. Let little hands choose. See how to colour air dry clay for fun ideas.

What to do with it

A frog is decor only. Keep it on a bedroom shelf. Rest it on a desk. Put it beside a candle in the living room. Kids love giving their frog to a grandparent, so it doubles as a gift.

Common questions

What age is it good for?

Most children from about five can shape a frog with help. Older kids and adults can add finer details.

Is the clay safe?

Air-dry clay is soft and easy to handle. Supervise young kids and wash hands after.

Will it be messy?

Only a little. Lay down paper first. Clean up takes minutes.

Do we need an oven?

No. Nothing is baked or fired. It dries on the shelf.
